Dale Roberts is a visionary entrepreneur who knows small business. He founded The Java Shack aka “Arlington’s Original Coffeehouse” in 1996. Dale owned and operated the widely beloved business for nearly twenty years.
Any small business owner understands that simple survival can be a challenging. Yet under Dale’s leadership, The Java Shack thrived on all three segments of the triple bottom line: social, environmental and financial. As a community gathering spot, “The Shack” has few equals in Arlington and was named “Small Business of the Year” on several occasions by both Arlington Economic Development and the Arlington Chamber. Dale is a leader in sustainability initiatives and recognized by Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment with their “Green Stewardship Award.” And Dale’s careful financial management sustained the business for nearly 20 years of dealings with suppliers, landlords, financial institutions, employees, government regulators and customers.
As an active participant in the local business community for more than 20 years, Dale has served on numerous boards and committees, including The Clarendon Alliance, Arlington Independent Media, Arlington Small Business Development Council as well as various green and social organizations.
Dale has been a featured speaker about small business issues at programs sponsored by numerous organizations, including the US Environmental Protection Agency, Arlington’s Committee of 100 and the Arlington County government. Topics ranged from greening your business to supporting locally owned businesses and managing small business success.
A native of Kansas, Dale has resided in Arlington for over 35 years. He loves to garden, spoil his dog Dali and continue his active engagement in making Arlington a special place. He holds a B.A. in Management from National Louis University.
